Before You Start
Unlike Swordman, Mage, Archer, Acolyte, Merchant, and Thief, Taekwon isn't offered by the Job Master — you have to earn it the old-fashioned way, by talking to Phoenix yourself. You'll need to be a Novice at Job Level 9 or higher before he'll take you seriously. There's no monster to fight and nothing to buy — the whole quest is a conversation, plus a small amount of leveling if you haven't already outleveled the requirement.
Step-by-Step Walkthrough
-
1. Talk to Phoenix in Payon
He's at (157, 141). Listen to his opening speech about the state of the world, then agree to train with him when asked — choose "Okay, I will join you."
-
2. Meet the level requirement
If your Base Level is already over 19, Phoenix will tell you you're ready and skip straight to the questions below. If not, he'll ask you to gain one more Base Level before returning — go level up anywhere, then come back and talk to him again.
-
3. Answer two questions correctly
Phoenix will test your character with two questions. Answer them exactly as follows:
- "When you encounter great difficulty, how do you generally respond?" — choose "I face it head on."
- The follow-up about conflicting viewpoints — choose "Accept differences and learn from them."
Picking a different answer doesn't fail the quest permanently — Phoenix just gives you a stern word and you can simply talk to him again to retry the same question.
-
4. Confirm your commitment
Phoenix asks if you're ready to dedicate yourself to his teachings. Choose "Yes." and the job change happens immediately.
What You Get
You'll become a Taekwon on the spot and receive a Guard to equip. That's it — no other items are handed out, despite what Phoenix's dialogue might suggest.
Tips
- There's no penalty for a wrong answer on either question — just talk to Phoenix again and try once more.
- You can start this conversation as soon as you hit Job Level 9; you don't need to wait until Job Level 10.
- Once you're Taekwon, you can eventually branch into Star Gladiator or Soul Linker — both are separate quests of their own.
